ARENAL VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK : HISTORY AND LOCATION

The most characteristic of this national park is the impressive and majestic Arenal Volcano, an almost perfect cone of 1,633 meters high, whose regular eruptions offer one of the most extraordinary and stunning natural panoramas of Costa Rica. The Park is considered a living laboratory given to its great geological, geomorphological richness and its complexity in the development of biological processes from a pioneer vegetation to a primary forest. It also contributes 70% of the water contained in the Arenal Reservoir Basin, the main source of hydroelectric energy in the country. Arenal Volcano: The 1,633 meters high volcano is one of the active mosta on the country.

The park has a very varied flora and fauna, comprising four life zones: very humid tropical forest (transition), montane rain forest, low montane rain forest (transition), very wet premontane forest (transition) that covers around a 47% of the area. Among the most conspicuous species, we find: Monte Guayabo, Cebo, Ceiba, Cirri, Laurel, Higuerones, Pilón, Guarumo, Balsa, different species of palms, heliconias, orchids, ferns and bromeliads including the endemic species: Pitcaimia Funkiae.35 species of fish, 135 species of reptiles that include turtles, tepezcuinte (pacas), tapir, deer, jaguar, sahíno, pizote, monkeys congo, colorado and white face, variety of snakes. An amazing 53% of the species that make up the national population of birds live here, making this park a real paradise for birdwatchers.

The arenal volcano national park; is located 8 miles from la fortuna town; passing the Tabacón resort; . this arenal volcano nacional park gathers the arenal volcano with 1968 trails; mirador el silencio ; and península; and gathers cerro chato volcano ( this last one it is close ; by since besides people get lost for being walking alone).
Este se ubica a 15 kms de la fortuna y 1 kmtrs del hotel Tabacón resorte ; con 13; 12; 124 has y está formado por cerro arenal; mirador 1968 y mirador el silencio y cerro chato ( este último cerrado por sinac ; y por peligro de que la gente se pierde).
